Inside & Out The Payn Home for retirees

The Payn Home provides a homelike environment for seniors who choose to live in a community setting.

In addition to the residents ‘ private rooms, there are common rooms, reading and video libraries, a comfortable dining room, a spacious and elegant living room with working fireplace, and outdoor patios overlooking several acres of grounds.

History

A handsome, brick building constructed in 1929, the Payn Home remains the realization of a philanthropist’s dream. Louis F. Payn, renowned entrepreneur and politician, and one of Chatham’s leading citizens, endowed a foundation to construct and maintain a gracious haven for older members of the community that he loved.

Mr. Payn left instructions that upon his death, his stately Victorian mansion be torn down to provide a site for the building that we know today. Only photographs remain of Mr. Payn’s original estate, but his living legacy, set amid great trees and well-tended gardens, still provides a welcoming and surprisingly affordable home for twenty-four men and women.
